BIM-based LCSA application in early design stages using IFC

چکیده
Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment (LCSA) is an integrated method that combines environmental, economic, and social assessments. Its methodological development remains under discussion, mainly regarding the building design. This paper aims to provide a systematic, interoperable, open-source approach towards implementing LCSA in Building Information Modelling (BIM) five steps. A harmonized data structure enriches BIM objects proposed. Automation principal evaluation step provided by integrating new parameters into current Industry Foundation Classes (IFC4). Dynamo script verifies its utility case study Spain using real-time calculations visualizations. Two alternative structural systems are assessed, identification made of lowest CO2 emitter, cost, most beneficial system for local employment. The can be employed evaluate other indicators countries. Challenges limitations standardization harmonization three dimensions identified.

Reasoning about accessibility for disabled using building graph models based on BIM/IFC
Background: Building Information Modelling (BIM) is becoming a standard in Architecture, Building and Construction (ABC) industries. It provides a method for a unified representation of information about building throughout its lifecycle – from the design phase to the building maintenance. At the design phase the focus is usually on fulfilling the requirements and applicable norms and standards...
متن کاملGeneric BIM queries based on the IFC object model using graph theory
In the architecture, engineering and construction industry, building information modeling (BIM) has emerged as a viable means to support information exchange and interoperability through open standards. As a technical basis, the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC), an open, platform-independent ISO standard, are commonly used as a collaboration format for building information modeling. With recen...
متن کاملCurrent Discussions on Digital Sketching in the Early Stages of Architectural Design in Education
In the architectural design, designers are focused on the early stages of the design process or conceptual design. The ultimate goal of this stage is to find a solution for an existing problem, investigate design space, or explore an idea. This stage conventionally begins with sketches and diagrams to explore ideas and solutions; the ambiguity and vagueness of conventional freehand sketching ca...
متن کاملTeaching Sustainable Design Using BIM and Project-Based Energy Simulations
The cross-disciplinary nature of energy-efficient building design has created many challenges for architecture, engineering and construction instructors. One of the technical challenges in teaching sustainable building design is enabling students to quantitatively understand how different building designs affect a building’s energy performance. Concept based instructional methods fall short in ...
متن کاملConflict analysis in a BIM based design
The development of an engineering design requires the participation of several parties involved in different disciplines, where each discipline conducts its own project in a somewhat disconnected manner from the remaining, therefore requiring project compatibility. In this context, an efficient conflict analysis between disciplines is essential to guarantee a well-developed design. The Building...
